The last game for the season was with our visitors Acme CC from the London area against Entrecasteaux CC.

One of our newest players that does not have much chance to play due to the distance away scored a wonder 1st four and won the match with his first six. Well done Cyril.

The wheather remaind fine for a 35 over game with a cooked luch after the first innings. Acme CC whent first to bat with the results as follows:

Entrecasteaux Sevens Tournament 26 Sept 2009

Eight teams participated in the day-long tournament, where games of one-hour were played on the main pitch and the adjacent football pitch, laid with a Flicx mat. Visiting teams were Greens Norton, who fielded two teams, Zambuca Tigers and Stage CC. Local teams were Riviera CC, Mediterranean CC and the hosts, ECC who also fielded two teams.

The draw saw ECC I, Med CC, Greens I and Stage in League A, whilst Riviera, Greens II, EEC II and Zambuca contested League B. The format was seven-a-side and six overs per innings.

In League A, the defending champions, ECC I, got off to a good start defeating Greens I, but that was the end of their success, losing later to the fast-developing Med CC team as well as newcomers, Stage CC. Med went on mark up a second victory over Greens I, but succumbed to Stage, who topped the table with three victories – their star batsman, Sunny, scoring 54 in one match to take the title of Best Batsman for the day.

In League B, last year's beaten finalists, Riviera CC also notched up three victories to progress to the Final with under strength Zambuca propping up the table.

In the Final Riviera batted first, but soon lost star batsman Phil Martin, who had set a high score of 48 earlier in the day, to a sharp stumping. The remaining batsmen rallied and set a target of 56 with Andy Bristow hitting 43. With star batsman, Sunny injured and requiring a runner, the Riviera total looked a fair challenge, but Sunny and Asif rose to the challenge and came home with one over to spare for the loss of just one wicket. Well done, Stage CC !

As we all know, what happens on the cricket pitch is only half the story. A cricket tournament or a club does not function without its band of unsung heroes – groundsmen, scorers, umpires and caterers etc. At the end of the day all the players sat down to a splendid meal in the Espace Culturel and took time to acknowledge the contribution of these non-playing heroes of the game.

Entrecasteaux v Pagets Marauders

Another fine day was had by all in sunny/cloudy conditions with a light breeze. This match was a little unusual or to say not our normal practice of playing as it was a timed match.

This means that the first innings is played to a level reaching a decloration or all out then leaving the second inning team to chace the total but also given a minimum of 20 over from a pre set point in time. I hope that makes it clear (probably not).

Following the Match we were all invited back to a BBQ at Mr Alan And Mrs Tara Elliots. On behalf of the ECC We would like to thank very much for a wonderfull evening.

The first innings was played by the Marauders and the results are as follows:

Once again our more mature cricket fans gathered with the return match of the members of the Iinternalional club. The day started with a wonderfull picnic with the food provided by the Iinternational club and wines etc provided through the internal club by FWW (Fine Wine Works) from Vence. The wheather was dry, clear and hot and the game was for all members including the ladies. The games was set for 20 overs but would continue to allow everone to bat and bowl if they wished. International club elected to bat first:-

Again ECC plays Riviera in St Vallier. The results were very disapointing for ECC as we started out with one player short then lost Phill due to a hand injury sending him home and then to hospital.

ECC batted first on a new all wheather surface. the wheather was partialy cloudy but warm.

Entrecasteaux CC v Reprobates

For the fourth year running the reprobates visited us

The Conditions were great with clear sky on an outfield well cut. The match of 35 overs did not go without incident unfortunately. A reprobate while attempting a catch injured his left hand and was taken to hospital for eight sttches to repair the damage. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

2009 Tour to Paris

Sunday 7 June 2009 Thoiry

Thoiry cc V Entrecasteaux cc

A very warm welcome was given to Entrecasteaux cc in a great setting of the grounds of the Chateaux Thoiry a quick high score was achieved by ECC giving Thoiry a good challenge to chase in this 35 over match. Unfortunately rain intervened stopping play and the game was halted. As you can see by the run rate that Ecc clearly comes out on top.

Standard Athletic cc V Entrecasteaux cc

A ver wet start to the day did put the game at risk. However, Standard did wish to play and the game started a little late but by then the rain had stopped. The pitch was extremely good in wonderful suroundings.

The hosts made us extremely welcome and played an excelent game as the results show as follows with SACC batting first:

Another very enjoyable day with a low scoring result with our friends from Edinburgh Scotland. Again an open invitation was offered for them to return.

Both sides turned out in full to play a match of 35 overs. Even though the game was disrupted by rain the full match was completed. The difficult conditions hampered both sides but a great competitive and enjoyable game was had by all. Entreacsteaux fielded first to form the following results

Entrecasteaux CC v Woodhouse CC

A very competitive game took place with our new friends from Woodhouse CC, Nottinghamshire and surrrounding counties.

As said by the Entrecasteaux Secretary R Joyce it was a very enjoyable game and wish the visiting team return for future games.

Both sides turned out in full to what was a bit of a  damp start to the match. However, the weather slightly improved as the day went on and a full match of 40 over's per side was completed. A very friendly encounter resulted in the following score line with Entrecasteaux batting first.
