February 2009
Dear Members and Friends of Entrecasteaux Cricket Club,
We are now a couple of months away from the start of our 2009 season.
In the close season your ‘behind the scenes' team of organisers has been
working away, preparing for an exciting season ahead with our sights set
on matching and surpassing previous achievements. This is a tall order,
given the level of activity and success achieved in 2008, when we won
all matches except one, shared the SE League title and won the end-of-season
‘Sevens' tournament. The social side of the Club also flourished with
Family Days, Brunches and Barbecues, organised at a number of Friendly
fixtures and Seniors matches.
Well, what's in store for the year ahead? The fixture list is already
looking good with over 20 matches already arranged - see attached). There
will be SE League matches, friendlies against many visitors from abroad,
a tour to play a week-end's cricket in Paris (6&7 June) as well as
the ever-popular, end-of-season the Entrecasteaux Sevens Tournament. Fun
family days and Seniors matches are also on the agenda.
The continuing success of the Club depends on its members, whether they
are first-team players, occasional players, groundsmen, scorers, umpires,
organisers, caterers, fundraisers, supporters or benefactors. Therefore,
we rely on your membership and look forward to you joining us for the
2009 season. I attach a 2009 Membership form. Please send a completed
copy to my home address (on the form), with a cheque made out to Entrecasteaux
Cricket Club..
In addition to the work your committee does behind the scenes to make
cricket happen at Entrecasteaux, there is also a lot of work that takes
place on match days (setting up and dismantling tents, chairs etc and
a lot of catering). We would much appreciate more members lending a hand
– not every week, if you can help out on just a few match days during
the season, that would be great! Let me know if you wish to be added to
our ‘volunteers' list. The indefatigable efforts of our catering and fundraising
team continue to make a remarkable contribution to the health of our finances;
without their help we could not function in the way we do; so do please
come and lend a hand !
The season gets underway on Sunday 5 April with an intra-squad friendly
match as well as the club's AGM. I'll send you more details soon, but
make a note in your diary - all-comers are welcome and everyone gets a
game.
Looking forward to seeing you all during the season.
Very best regards,
Rod Joyce

Entrecasteaux Cricket Club (ECC) currently has around 70 members, of which
around half are players. Player ages range from 9 to over 70. Many members
travel from far afield to play at ECC. Our first team includes players
from Aix, Antibes, Cannes, Lyon and Marseille!
To fulfil our growing fixture programme we are always seeking new players
of all ages and abilities! Many of our current players are in the age
ranges 40-60+, who thought their playing days were over, but have found
a new lease of life playing under the Provencal sun! So don't hesitate
if you fall in this category!
In addition to our League and Cup fixtures, we have many friendly games
against visiting teams from abroad as well as Senior (50+) and Junior
games; so there is plenty of opportunity for all members to get a game.
Non-playing members are able to support the club in many ways, in roles
such as groundsmen, scorers, umpires, organisers, caterers, fundraisers,
supporters or benefactors.
Therefore, we rely on our members and look forward to you joining us for
the 2009 season.

Our membership fee is 50 Euros per senior playing member, 10 Euros for
juniors and 16 Euros for supporters.
Coaching for juniors takes place regularly at the ground under qualified
coach and club President, Len Terry. Practice for all-comers usually takes
place on Wednesday evenings, but do check with the club first if you are
thinking of coming along.
