Success reached by one  of our members:

Some of you may be aware that our club has acheived success in many ways. One of our members has had his cricket experience revitalised so much the he has now become the President of the France Cricket Umpiring Commission..

Mr Mike Lomax says"I owe my umpiring career entirely to Entrecasteaux, and it has given me a great new interest in cricket."

Since his great acheivement, Mike not only umpires for Entrecasteaux but travelled to Chantilly for the France Super league final on Sunday 20th September 2009.

The final was between Balbyniens and Gymkana team. The overall result was a win by the Balbyniens by 200 runs

Sunday 14 June ECC v Reprobates

Yet again we had  a great meeting of 35 over per side with a win to ECC in good clear condition but with high humidity levels

You will find a full score table etc on the results page

Photos had been taken but will be uploaded later

Tour 6th and 7th June to Paris

Well the touring team is back with mixed emotions as we failed to get a win on Saturday against Standard Athletic CC, but came back with a very strong win on Sunday against Thoiry CC.

Both host clubs made us extremely welcome and have requested that they can come and visit us in the future. Our thanks again to both hosts for giving us such good games in great surroundings.

The weather was not that great with rain early on Saturday which did put the game in doubt. However Standard did form a very strong team and a full 35 over game was held on the superb grounds. Sunday started dry with clouds so ECC set a strong high total during the first innings for Thoiry to chase. The rain however did intervene which stopped the match during the 19th over of the second innings.

The score has now been added into the results page Photo's will be added asap

Revised fixture list posted to include two social games on the 26th July and 23rd August

A revised fixture list was posted 07/04/09

An accommodation listing for surrounding entrecasteaux was posted within useful links page

The season has started with an inter club match on Sunday 5th April 2009 .

What looked like to be a great day, the weather turned out rather wet towards the end of the game which resulted in the match being abandoned.

It was great to see so many players and supporters turn out for what looks like a highly competitive season ahead.

The AGM also took place and a full report will be available to members on request.

However I can say that the club membership has yet again grown and the level and standard of play is even greater while still maintaining a family atmasphier.

With so many good players it is likely that the committee/club selectors will have the difficult task to select players for future matches.

The 2009 season gets underway next Sunday, 5 April, with a friendly
intra-squad match where everyone gets a game! So please come along and
join in.

Our captain, Uddi, and the club committee encourage as many of you as
possible to be there. If you cannot make the whole match, then do make
sure you are there for the Annual General Meeting, which will be held in
the lunch interval at 15.00. This is an important occasion when we can
all discuss arrangements for a very busy season ahead.

Please be there for the match which starts at 12.30. Bring you own lunch.

PLEASE REPLY

Thanks

2008 Season Review

One of our most successful seasons for performance on the pitch, losing only one of the twenty matches played. We defeated a number of good teams coming from abroad as well as having the upper hand against other teams from SE France. Victors again in the Entrecasteaux Sevens Tournament, narrowly defeating our local rivals Riviera CC.

A good season off the pitch also with a number of social and senior games, where off-the-pitch enjoyment was as important as anything that happened on the pitch. We were honoured to have Ted Dexter CBE, Former England Captain and Chairman of Selectors, present the prizes at the sevens Tournament.

Our catering and fundraising team again did a splendid job, boosting our finances and making another tour in 2009 possible.

5 October ECC v Mediterranean CC – Win for ECC

Stung by defeat in our previous game against the youngsters from the Alpes Maritimes, we made no mistake in the closing game of the season. ECC batted first and amassed a total of 225-8 thanks largely to a chanceless century from Anthony (110). Phil (37) and Andy (36) also made solid contributions. In reply Med CC always struggled to keep up with the required rate and totalled 134; Christy Parkes scoring a half century.

28 September ECC v Barnes – Win for ECC

Our regular end-of-season game against our friends from West London turned out to be just as an enjoyable and close encounter as usual. Barnes batted first and totalled 124 all out. In reply ECC started strongly with a 78 retired from Chaminda, but were struggling later in the innings, but managed to reach the total with 8 wickets down.

27 September Entrecasteaux Sevens Tournament – Win for ECC

The club's big day of the year somehow remained dry until the last ball had been bowled, as last year. Seven teams participated, all playing four round robin matches before the final. The team from Marseille almost made it to the final, potentially eliminating the ECC first team, but lost a wicket with the last ball instead of scoring the two runs required for victory. Having defeated ECC earlier in the day, Riviera CC went into the final full of confidence, but allowed too many runs off their last couple of overs and were unable to match the ECC total when they batted.

20 & 21 September ECC v BBC Bushmen – Wins for ECC

Thanks to support from our friends at Med CC, we were able to turn out two teams over the weekend. On Saturday ECC made 159-8 and the visitors fell 20 runs short with wickets in hand. On Sunday a stronger ECC squad dismissed the visitors for 128, but soon lost wickets themselves and looked in danger of losing, but Cliff and Rod put on 35 for the 8 th wicket to bring ECC home

14 September   ECC v VOC Rotterdam   - Win for ECC

The second visit by the Dutch team, including again some former national team players. The visitors batted first and made good headway, reaching 225-7 with Zuiderent, formerly of Sussex, making a spectacular century. In reply the early ECC batsmen all made good contributions (Dight 35, Danush 38, Anthony 64 and Uddi 34) and passed the VOC total with seven overs to spare.

7 September   ECC v Mediterranean CC- Loss for ECC

Having enjoyed relatively easy victories against the youngsters from the Alpes Maritimes earlier in the season, ECC were shocked by a strong batting and bowling performance by the opposition. ECC made only 68 with only Martin Mullin and Chaminda making double figures. In reply the youngsters achieved the target with eight wickets down.

30 Aug ECC v Paget's Marauders   -Win for ECC

The visit of Paget's Marauders was organised by long-term ECC benefactor, Alan Eliot, who hosted all involved to a splendid BBQ at his home after the game. The Marauders had some strong players and batting first made 227-6 off 35 overs. In reply ECC rose to the challenge and, thanks to some good innings (Dight 44, Roshan 80, Uddi 51 and Dight 27), came home with 7 overs to spare.

23 August   ECC v International Club – Win for ECC

Our social game against our friends form Nice was as enjoyable as ever. A picnic by the river was followed by a fun game with seniors and ladies battling it out gently under a hot August sun.

2 0 July ECC v HMS Bulwark   - Win for ECC

Fortunately a blank in our calendar coincided with the docking of HMS Bulwark in Toulon and a game was quickly arranged. The visitors arrived in force by coach and a most enjoyable day followed. ECC batted first, making 209-6 (Anthony 33, Roshan 54, Chaminda 52). The naval men had no firepower with the bat and succumbed at 113 all out.

6 July   ECC v Provence   - Win for ECC

It was good to host a reconvened Provence team from Aix after a break of 3 years.

The visitors made a respectable 157 with Moon making 72. In reply Shiran made an unbeaten 51 and Chaminda 45 as ECC reached the target with the loss of seven wickets.

22 June ECC v Riviera   - Win for ECC

Our return match against our local rivals was as fiercely contested as usual. ECC made only 147-9 in a 30 over game on a hot afternoon, with Uddi 35 and Shiran 34 top-scoring. Riviera lost early wickets and struggled to keep pace with the required run rate. Roshan was the pick of the bowlers 3-5 off 6 overs as the visitors totalled 115 all out.

15 June Seniors Tournament   - Fun for All

Sixteen senior players and guests enjoyed a double wicket tournament with everyone getting a good chance to demonstrate their batting and bowling skills. Guy Beddington and Alan Denton ran out winners.

8 June ECC v Reprobates   - Win for ECC

A second visit by the London-based nomad team. Robin Mayes, guesting for ECC (he had made a century and taken a hat-trick in his guest appearance last year) top-scored with 41 as ECC made a disappointing 112 all out. The vistors fell well short of the target in reply.

Sun 1 June: ECC v Mediterranean (Away)- Win for ECC
Our second match against the new young club based in the Alpes Maritimes. The opposition batted first and made 88 all out off 35 overs. Cliff and Chaminda were the pick of our bowlers. In reply we struggled against some tight bowling and seemed to be staring defeat in the face when our 7th wicket fell at 60 runs, but the tail wagged and we came home victorious at 89-8 with one over left.

4 May ECC v Riviera (Away) – Win for ECC
Having suffered a 90 run defeat in this fixture last year, we were keen to turn the tables. Riviera batted first and made 158-9 off 35 overs, Taggart top scoring with 30 and David Coates and Dight taking a couple of wickets each. In reply ECC made 161-9, struggling over the winning line with Cliff and Len at the crease. The backbone of the ECC innings was a splendid 60 from Andy Fife, who passed 50 with three consecutive sixes!

Sun 27 April: ECC v Mediterranean (Home) - Win for ECC
Our first match against the new young club based in the Alpes Maritimes. It was their first ever game. ECC batted first and made 125, being bowled out in only 35 of the 40 allocated overs, many of our first-team players making poor scores against a good bowling attack. Taking the field ECC fully realised that the youngsters were no push-over. The youngsters batted well for all their 40 overs, but fell short of the target at 95-8.

Sun 6 April – Fun for All

Our season opener was well-attended with over twenty members turning out for a very enjoyable double-wicket tournament. The club's AGM was held enabling your committee to get plans underway for the new season and elect the new captain, Uddika. Anthony was thanked for his energetic and very capable leadership over the past three years.

(4/6/2008)

In April we learned of the death of Ernest Shackleton, a founder member of the club and our first official member. Ernest had always been a keen supporter of the club's activity and was a frequent and enthusiastic supporter and committee member along with his wife, Inge. Our thoughts are with her and the family at this very sad time.

The start of the season has seen a good set of results in the matches we have played against Riviera CC and Mediterranean CC. Our club's players in the SE France fixture against SW France were also victorious. Practice games have been organised where visiting teams in our programme have let us down. An exciting season lies ahead, so come and join in! The weather must get better soon!

(14/1/2008)

Our new season gets underway on Sunday 6 April 2008 with an Intra-Squad Friendly and our AGM. A promising fixture list is developing for the whole season, but there are still gaps available for visiting teams from the UK or elsewhere – Get in touch with Maurice Mitchem (ma.mitchem@wanadoo.fr).

The 2007 season ended on a high note with Entrecasteaux successfully defending the Sevens tournament. Eight teams participated and a great day was had by all; a nail-biting finish with the winning run coming from the last ball!

(27/9/07)

July and early September have seen good performances in serious and social matches alike. After almost winning the Quick tournament in Holland, our League team avenged its earlier defeat against Riviera. We have had victories in tight games against strong visiting sides from VOC Rotterdam, BBC Bushmen and Marseille. A social game against the Commonwealth Club and a Seniors Double Wicket Tournament both provided great entertainment.

Our last two weekends of the season lie ahead with our big event of the year, the Entrecasteaux Sevens, in 2 day's time. Read on…

Sept 29 Entrecasteaux 7s    Four UK teams (Whitchurch Heath, Nomads, Zambuca and Barnes) will do battle with Riviera, Mediterranean CC and two Entrecasteaux teams in this day-long series of quick-fire, six-over games, involving over 100 people, but there's room for more if you want to come! Siddalls, the financial services provider has sponsored colourful shirts for all the teams.

Sept 30 Barnes     After all the hectic activity of the preceding day, we will be playing a full game against our regular visitors at this time of year. After defeat in this match last year, we will be ready to turn the tables!

Oct 6&7 Lodi     After visiting Lodi and winning the 20/20 tournament in May, we will be hosting our Italian friends for games on both Saturday and Sunday, always an enjoyable end to the season.

For the record…

28/29 July Quick Tournament The Hague
The Entrecasteaux squad played magnificently, winning 3 of its 4 games and finishing equal top in its qualifying league, only to find that we had a slightly lower run rate and did not qualify for the final. The team that did was one of the teams that we had already beaten and they went on to win the final. So we did not win the tournament, but beat the team that did!

Aug 19 v Commonwealth Club – Win for ECC
A second encounter with our friends from Nice, played in relaxed mode in view of the heat and the advanced years of many of the players. ECC made 159 with Andy Fife, Ray Ash and Jamie Fell all being compulsorily retired on passing 20 runs. Despite Ian Stuart and Rod guesting for the opposition, ECC won by 85 runs and were presented with a ship's emblem which will become the annual trophy for this very friendly match

Aug 26 v Riviera (SE League) – Win for ECC
Having suffered defeat against our local rivals in July, we were able to field a strong team and managed to win a very tight match. ECC batted first and Andy Fife (42) and Jamie Fell (54) made a solid century stand for the second wicket. Uddika, Roshan and Rhys contributed valuable quick runs at the end of the innings, totalling 215-8. In reply, Riviera made good progress with Taggart (50), Martin (40) and Majid (37) pushing the score along well. The final over was reached with Riviera needing just six runs for victory with two wickets in hand. Uddika coolly dismissed the two batsmen without a run being added.

Sept 2 Seniors/Family Day
Fourteen senior players enjoyed a double wicket competition, where the total of runs scored was reduced by four runs for each dismissal over five overs. Everyone got to bat and bowl and there were many strong performances that belied the advancing years, most notably from Andrew Packard, the club's most senior player, and the eventual winners, Ray Ash and Peter Cuttell.

Sept 9 VOC Rotterdam - Win for ECC
A remarkable match for the way fortunes changed through the game and the tremendous spirit of the encounter. VOC fielded no fewer than 3 ex-national team players, including ex-county pro and Holland captain, Roland Lefebre, whom Rod dismissed second ball lbw!

VOC batted first and reached 194-9, with Maurice, guesting for the opposition, contributing a lusty 21no. In reply, ECC quickly found themselves in big trouble at 17-4, but then Uddika and Chaminda came to the wicket and took us to the winning post in a tremendous, club-record stand of 179 unbroken; Uddika hitting a strong bowling attack to all parts of the ground in a characteristic century (127no), ably supported by Chaminda on 48no.

Sept 16 v BBC Bushmen - Win for ECC
The Bushmen had just recorded six straight victories before coming to ECC and, batting first, totalled 162-7; Robin Murphy, fresh from captaining the French National U15 team in the European Champs in La Manga, was the pick of the bowlers with 3-26. ECC made a solid start in reply with Maurice again finding form with the bat scoring 29 from the opener's position. Eddie Bishop (37) and Shalana (24) also made solid contributions early in the innings, before wickets began to fall cheaply and defeat looked likely. However, the cool heads of Robin Murphy and Chaminda saw ECC to victory at 164-8

Sept 23 v Marseille - Win for ECC
Many of our old friends from Marseille came for the first time this season and contributed to a good match as well as providing a splendid curry lunch for all!
Saim's team batted first and made 144-8 off 30 overs, Roshan (25) and Suresh (25) and Extras (50) contributing the main runs. In reply, all the ECC early order made runs Maurice (19), David Green (35), Alan Finney (13) and Danush (13) and ECC ran out winners at 146-6 with 3 overs to spare.

(7/8/07)

Our mid-season break will soon be over and we have a full schedule of matches right through to early October; so let me know which games you are available for. Here are the first three.

Sun 19 Aug @14:30 Home v Commonwealth Club . This is very much a fun game against less than regular players from a social club in Nice. It was a very enjoyable occasion when we entertained them last summer and we plan to repeat it. This game will suit ECC players of all ages and not necessarily first-team ability. Probably a15-over game, starting at 14.30 and lasting until 17.00. No catering available, but do bring a picnic lunch if you wish and join the Commonwealth Club team beside the river before the game. All-comers get a game.

Sun 26 Aug @12:00 Home v Riviera CC (League)   A chance to avenge the defeat we suffered at Riviera in July. First team players to let me know if they are available and Captain Anthony will make a team selection if necessary. Sandwich lunch available.

Sun 2 Sept @12:00 Seniors Match and Family Day   After the great success of this event in May; more fun for the over-fifties (or thereabouts), who will take centre-stage in a tense duel aimed at ending Maurice's undefeated status. All-comers get a game. Bring a dish for a shared lunch - let Jane know what you're bringing to eat (04 94 04 37 66).

(18/7/07)

June and early July have seen a good set of results for Entrecasteaux; with more wins than losses. However, defeat in our latest match against local rivals Riviera has taken the edge off good earlier wins at the Lodi Tournament in Italy and against visiting Reprobates from London.
However we still have our second foreign tour to the Quick Tournament in Holland in late July; before we enter our summer recess and resume a hectic schedule of matches in late August (see below) through to early October. Read on....

Quick Tournament, The Hague, 28/29 July
A strong ECC first team will heading for Holland for the Quick Club 8-a-side tournament. We have enjoyed matches at Entrecasteaux against Quick in the past and it will be a pleasure to return visit. Let's hope we bring home the second tournament trophy of the season!

For the record....

Sun 10 June: ECC v Reprobates (Home)
Win for ECC
A seond visit by the London-based team whom we beat narrowly last year. ECC batted first and made 177 off 35 overs with good contributions from Uddika (44), Dight (30), Chaminda (26) and Rhys (18). In reply the visitors made steady progress with R Codd making an impressive 89 n.o., but wickets started to fall as they approached the target and the cliff-hanger position was reached, where they needed only 3 runs from the last 2 balls to win - but with the last pair at the crease. A quick single was attempted and Uddika coolly threw down the stumps - victory for ECC!

Sat/Sun, 16/17 June 20/20 Tournament (Lodi, Italy)
Win for ECC
After winning the Golden Duck tournament on this ground two years ago, we set off in confident mood, fielding a full 11-man side in this 20/20 tournament. In our semi-final we defeated the Lodi 1st team fairly comfortably. Lodi batted first and made 87-8; Dight getting the best bowling figures of 3-15. In reply ECC made 90 for the loss of just 1 wicket off 14 overs with Dight making 34, Maulik 26no and Uddika 18no. In the final we played Cassonay from Switzerland, who again batted first, making 117-6, Boden top-scoring with 78. Roshan with 2-12 and Uddika with 2-23 were the pick of the bowlers. In reply, ECC got off to a solid start with Dight making 38 and Maulik 22; then wickets began to tumble fast, but we ran out winners at 118-6 with 2 overs to spare.

Sun 24 June Juniors & Intra-squad 20/20
Our second League encounter against Monte Carlo was cancelled as they could not raise a team. It was important that a full day of cricket was organised, as we were hosts to the region's baseball and softball elite for their annual prizegiving lunch. Our catering ladies did a quite splendid job laying on a sit-down lunch for 60 as well as 40 players for sandwiches - quite an effort! In the morning a full junior game was played with a large contingent coming over from Riviera CC. In the afternoon a 20/20 friendly was played with two full sides.

Sun 8 July ECC v Riviera (Away)
Loss for ECC
Our string of victories against our local rivals came to an end with a 90 run defeat. Riviera batted first and strong performances from Kelsey (65), Ghauri (37), Larg (24) and Chitriki (21) saw the home side a post a good target of 211 all out. Anthony (3-22), Chaminda (2-33) and Dight (2-40) were the pick of the bowlers. In reply, ECC, missing a couple of regulars, failed to impress with the bat apart from Dight (39) and Anthony (30). We were all out for 120 in 26 overs.

(30/5/2007)

After a quiet April, things have moved on positively during May and June is full of exciting games also. Some very good news is that we have received a positive reply from former England captain, Ted Dexter, who will come to present prizes at the Entrecasteaux Sevens Tournament on Sept 29.  Read on....

Sun 10 June: ECC v Reprobates (Home)
A return visit by the Northampton-based team whom we beat last year. We still need more players for this game. Contact Match Manager: Maurice Mitchem (ma.mitchem@wanadoo.fr)

Sat/Sun, 16/17 June 20/20 Tournament (Lodi, Italy)
The first of our two foreign tours this year. We will play in a four-team tournament against teams form Italy, UK and Switzerland. After winning the Golden Duck tournament on this ground two years ago, we set off in confident mood, but we should not be complacent! More players and supporters welcome.
Match Manager: Rod Joyce(rodneyjoyce@wanadoo.fr).

Sun 24 June ECC v Monte Carlo (Home)
Our second League encounter against MCCC. Also this same day we will be hosting a large number of our region's leading sports managers at lunch, so we want to put on a good show. Match Manager:Rod Joyce(rodneyjoyce@wanadoo.fr).

Sat 30 June ECC v Commonwealth Club
A repeat of last year's social game against the Commonwealth Club from Nice. A fun game that would appeal to our many eager, but not quite first-team standard players. Match Manager:Rod Joyce(rodneyjoyce@wanadoo.fr)

For the record...

Sun 6 May: ECC v Monte Carlo - Win ECC

Our first League match at home against our local rivals. Batting first ECC were shocked to find themselves at 8-3, as the openers fell cheaply, but Satpal (26), Chaminda (59), Danush (18) and Shiran (19no) steadied the ship to enable ECC to reach 180 all out. Tight bowling from Roshan (3-23), David Coates (2-24), Dight (2-17), Maulik (2-3) and Chaminda (1-1) kept MCCC under constant pressure and the opposition were bowled out for 76.

Sat 12/Sun 13 May: SE France v SW France - Win for SE Juniors
The SE Juniors scored a notable win over their SW rivals at Bordeaux. The SE team included Jamie Hibbert and Cleveland Thom from ECC. Well done to all the players and to their coaches, including ECC's own, Len Terry. Unfortunately, the Senior SE team was unable to make the trip to Bordeaux, as player availability for a Saturday fixture proved too difficult.

Sun 20 May: Seniors Match and Family Day
After three successive defeats in recent seasons, Rod's Razors again slumped to defeat against Maurice's Maulers in an entertaining game, featuring no fewer than 25 ECC players! But it was not the game which was important. It was great family day with well over forty people sitting down to lunch and junior games being played all day on the sidelines and later on the main pitch. Rod's team batted first and made only 78-8, thanks largely to Ivan Linhart (27) and Martin Hopewell (20). Andy Fife and Tony Handley took 3 wickets each. Maurice's team looked to well behind the required run rate until David Green ((27), Stephen Murphy (17) and Andy Fife(13) turned up the heat and coasted home. Cleveland Thom was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets. The day was such a success that we will hold another Senior Match on Sun 2 Sept; make a note in your diaries!

Sun 22 April: ECC Doubles Tournament
We were disappointed that Riviera were unable to bring over a team for our first scheduled league game of the season, so had another practice session with the bowling machine, followed by an enjoyable Doubles Tournament. Dight Everton and visiting Will Fife ran out easy winners, batting last of the five randomly picked pairings.

(4/5/07)
The new season has got off to a slow start, as bad weather and cancellations by visiting teams have meant cricketless days and hastily rearranged friendly games. Now that May is here, however, we move into top gear with a series of demanding league games, social games and an away tour to Bordeaux. Read about it all below.

Sat 31 March: ECC & Riviera Seniors v Riviera Juniors

This curtain-raiser for the new season was played in steady rain throughout. Undaunted, the Seniors put up a healthy score of 125 off 25 overs, and then with tight bowling were able to keep the youngsters below the required run rate to win by eight runs. ECC's Len Terry, Maurice Mitchem, Ray Ash, Davis Coates and Rod Joyce were rain-soaked members of the victorious team, while ECC junior, Jonathan Coates, led the youngsters in their run chase.

Sun 8 April: ECC Open Day
Nomads, our regular visitors at Easter, failed to assemble a squad this year, so we reinstated our Open Day, which had been rained off the previous week-end. Twenty players turned up for our season-opener and two hours were spent as each tried to defeat the indefatigable Mr Bola, our bowling machine, who had the upper hand over nearly all his challengers! This was followed by a 20 over challenge match between teams led by Uddi and Chaminda; Uddi was victorious, launching a characteristic six over the long-on boundary for the winning runs off
the bowling of his opposing captain!

11-14 April - Training Camp
Just after Easter we welcomed UK-based members, coaches Ian Stuart and
Jeremy Frith, and a squad of 13 youngsters from Hampshire for an intensive training camp on our ground. Fortunately the weather relented and the talented youngsters were able to hone their considerable skills. We look forward to the young cricketers visiting in future and turning out in Entrecasteaux colours!
